Abstract
441,298. Reaping and mowing machines. POPE, W., 181, New Street, Great Torrington, Devon. Sept. 17, 1934, No. 26687. [Class 6 (iii)] The knife bar 5 is provided with a tongue or like projection 8 at its forward edge to engage below co-operating shoulders 10 on the finger bars 2 thus holding the blades 4 down on the fingers or the ledger blades 7. The rear edge of the knife bar abuts against an adjustable plate 12 which may be slightly chamfered on its upper face to engage under the rear end of the blades 4. In a modification, the rear of the knife bar 5 is chamfered to engage a corresponding chamfered edge on an adjusting plate which thus wedges the blades down on the finger bars. Central and lateral channels 16 are formed in the lower sides of the blades to permit the escape of grass juices, these channels leading to outlets 17, 18 in the blades.
