Abstract

A moulding powder is prepared by adding acid to an aqueous alkaline solution containing casein and a polybasic acid-polyhydric alcohol condensation product, treating the moist precipitate with aqueous formaldehyde and then freeing it from formaldehyde and acid and drying. The term "casein" includes egg and blood albumen. The condensation product should be soluble in aqueous alkalies, miscible in alkaline solution with aqueous dispersions of casein without mutual precipitation or coagulation, and may contain a modifying agent, e.g. castor, drying and olive oils, rosin, and stearic and hydroxystearic acids. Dyes, pigments and fillers may be incorporated by dispersing them in the aqueous alkaline solution.
