Abstract

439,737. Cathode-ray tubes. SCHIFF, L., 26, Augustastrasse, Lichterfelde, Berlin. April 9, 1934, No. 10683. [Class 39 (i)] In cathode-ray tubes for transmitting and receiving large pictures &c., the electron ray is brought to a focus in an intermediate plane 17 and is deflected as by plates 18, 19 to trace out a zigzag or curved line in this plane and the "electron image" so formed is reproduced on an enlarged scale in another plane 16. In a receiving tube as shown, the ray produced by the cathode 12 and anode 13 is modulated by a grid 33. A coil 15 between the anode 13 and the plates 18 focuses an aperture in a screen 32 on to the plane 17 and a second coil 20 close to the plane 17 reproduces the image lying in the plane 17 on a fluorescent layer lying in the plane 16. More than one intermediate image may be formed. In a transmitting tube, the ray is not modulated and the plane 16 contains photoelectric cells which have a common anode connected to an amplifier and on to which an image of the picture to be transmitted is focused by a lens. The coils may be replaced by or used in combination with, electrostatic focusing devices.
