Abstract

439,342. Discharge devices; valve generating circuits. TELEFUNKEN GES. FUR DRAHTLOSE TELEGRAPHIE, 12, Hallesches Ufer, Berlin. March 1, 1935, No. 6561. Convention date, March 1, 1934. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (v)] A discharge device, suitable for use as a magnetron oscillator, comprises a plurality of cathodes and two anode parts associated with each cathode, the whole of the anode parts being longitudinally substantially co-extensive and corresponding anode parts being mechanically united laterally so that there are two groups of anode parts each constituted by a mechanically unitary electrode member. Six electrode systems may be formed by inner and outer . walls, each of which is formed by six partly cylindrical members A1, A2, Fig. 1, and houses a filament cathode K. The members A1 may form the side walls of the container and are closed at each end by ceramic discs B, Fig. 3. The outer and inner anode parts A1, A2 are connected to concentric tubes E1, E2 which are sealed into the discs B through glass members Z and serve as leading-in conductors and to conduct the high-frequency oscillations to the aerial &c. The anodes A2 may be extended to form the tube W1 which together with an inner tube W2 forms a cooling circuit. The space within the anodes A2 may also be adapted to house the leading-in wires for the seriesconnected cathodes K. A field coil F surrounds the tube, a number of which may be connected in parallel by means of the tubes E1, E2. In another form, the anode parts are formed by coatings, e.g. by spraying, on ceramic structures, e.g. the structure J1, Fig. 6, which forms the envelope of the device, and the structure J2 provided with a bore C for cooling fluid. In another form, the cathodes K, Fig. 5, are located in one plane and are housed within anodes A1, A2. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states also that two discharge devices, each of which comprises a cathode and a split anode, are arranged between the two poles of a permanent magnet. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
