Abstract
438,607. Folding stands; trestles. HILL, E. B., 30, Darwin Street, Birmingham. May 22, 1934, No. 15207. [Class 52 (v)] [See also Group XXV]. A folding stand or trestle comprises an outer tubular frame a<1> of inverted U-shape with an intermediate cross-tube a<3>, and an inner tubular U-shaped frame b located beneath the intermediate cross-tube and connected therewith by a single central vertical pivot g with means for securing the frames in their open setting. The frames are formed of metal tubes of square cross-section with non-slip rubber feet c and the outer frame has on its upper cross-tube a<2> a row of buffers or cushions d. Midway within the intermediate cross-tube a3 is fixed a bearing block e with a central hole e<1> and a groove e<2> in its base and in the underside of the tube a<3>. Fixed midway of the inner frame b is a striking plate f with which engages a clamping screw g passing through the hole e<1> of the bearing block and provided with an actuating head g<1>. A spring h is provided within the head g<1>, and with the screw loosened the striking plate f clicks into the groove e<2> in the open position. By tightening the screw the frame is locked in this position. The striking plate may be replaced by a pair of ratchet discs.
