Abstract

438,370. Railway - vehicle undercarriages. TUGWOOD, R. J., 77, Chancery Lane, London.-(Kimberley, R. E. ; Villa Colina, Junin, Buenos Aires) May 15, 1934, No. 14666. [Class 103 (vi)] In order to dispense with the usual bolster the underframe 1 of a railway vehicle is suspended from the bogie side-frames by means of resilient hangers 12, which are disposec near the centres of the side-frames and are connected to the underframe and bogie by joints that permit the necessary lateral and swivelling movements of the bogie. As shown two depending brackets 3 are provided adjacent each bogie and are ball-jointed at 9 to eyes 11 at the lower ends of the hangers 12, which ir turn are supported by hemispherical joints 13, 14 and springs 16 on the bogie. Tractive efforts are transmitted to the bogie, and the latter is guided relative to the underframe by a king-pin 18 working in a guide 20 securec between transverse members 21 of the bogie frame. The bogie side-frames are built up of a pair of side plates 4 and top and bottom plates 26, forming a box-like structure ir which the hangers 12 and bogie supporting springs 29 are accommodated. These springs 29 are of leaf construction and are locatec between the side-frames and the axle-boxes 27, which are guided upon vertical rods 28. Modifications are described in which the helical springs 16 are replaced by rubber blocks and by laminated springs.
