[Class 104 (ii)] [See also Groups VII and XIII] In a shoe factory a conveyer having a plurality of tracks is arranged along a production line at spaced points in the length of which successive manufacturing operations are performed. Preferably, the conveyer comprises superposed pairs of angle-iron rails 40, each pair supporting and guiding trays 42 of rectangular section engaging the rails by large-diameter balls 44. From 3 to 6 tracks may be provided, the topmost trays being under 5 feet from the floor. For the first part of the manufacture the trays may have cross-members in the spaces between which the shoes may be supported bottom uppermost. These crossmembers may be inclined so that the work may face the side of the conveyer at which the majority of the machines are located. After the soles have been secured the conveyer may comprise one less track than up to that point. From this point trays may be returned along the bottom pair of rails. The remainder of the conveyer may be of U or other shape in plan, and the trays used from this point may be flat, the U-shape of the conveyer returning the trays to near their starting point. At appropriate points the conveyer, or some of the runs thereof may pass through a dryer.
