Abstract
392,916. Nailing-machines. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd. and GOULDBOURN, J., Union Works, Belgrave Road, Leicester. Nov. 24, 1931, No. 32507. [Class 89 (iii).] Relates to means in a loose-nailing machine for preventing jamming of nails in the raceway at the point where nails enter the raceway from the nail supply, particularly such jamming as results from two nails entering the raceway with their points crossed. Adjacent the hollow 9 where nails enter the raceway from the shelf 7, the raceway groove has the cross section shown in Fig. 4. The top of the groove is bounded by very shallow surfaces 23, below which the groove widens considerably. With this construction, should two nails enter the groove with their points crossed, they are able to turn about an axis extending lengthwise of the raceway, and so fall out of the way. At a point below that at which nails enter the raceway, the groove reverts to the customary cross section shown in Fig. 5, in which the sides of the groove are substantially vertical. The invention is shown applied to a double raceway machine. Specifications 1494/93, 4471/03, 6450/05, [all in Class 89, Nails &c.], 9694/09 and 265,298, [both in Class 89 (iii), Nailing &c.], are referred to.
