Abstract

437,726. Valve circuits for wireless reception and modulating. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., Electra House, Victoria Embankment, London.- (Assignees of Smith, J. C. ; 4618, Layayette Avenue, Merchantville, New Jersey, U.S.A.) Jan. 31, 1934, No. 3277. Convention date, Jan. 31, 1933. [Class 40 (v)] A mixing valve for use in a supersonic heterodyne or a homodyne receiver or as a modulator consists of signal input and oscillator sections, both comprising a grid and an anode and located in the electron stream from a cathode, with screening between the sections and between the control grid and anode of the signal section. The Figure shows the oscillator section next to the cathode, the circuit of the grid 52 being tuned and containing a resistance 86. Gain control is obtained by varying the bias of the signal input grid 66 by manual means or automatically in accordance with signal strength. The grid 66 may be of the variable-mu type while the oscillator anode 67 may extend over only a small part of the electron stream and may be in the form of one or more rods. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises an arrangement in which two control grids separated by a screen are provided and fed with oscillations from . external sources, Fig. 6 (Cancelled) (not shown). Fig. 5 (Cancelled) shows an arrangement in which the oscillator section is next to the anode and.Fig. 7 (Cancelled) an arrangement in which the oscillator anode 67 serves as the screen between the input and oscillator sections. In the latter a volume control valve 75 is provided fed with signal potentials through terminals 82 and biassed to bottom bend. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
