[Class 146 (i)] A loose-leaf holder for notebooks, card folios, filing systems, and the like comprises a base or backing provided with a permanent magnet, and a set of loose leaves or cards, each leaf or card being provided along one edge with a magnetically-influenced part or parts adapted to be retained by the magnetic attraction of the magnet. As applied to a notebook, a permanent bar magnet 1, Fig. 1, is mounted at its ends in soft iron pads 2 which are secured by screws to the back of the cover 5. The pads are of practically circular cross section, and have at their outer edges raised ridges 6. Each leaf 7 of the book is provided with a keeper 8 consisting of a very thin strip of soft iron bent into U-form to embrace the edge of the leaf, and the strip is secured to the leaf by means of a series of punched holes 9. Notches 10 in the strip engage the ridges 6 whereby the leaf is registered in the book. For a box-file, the holder consists of two spaced apart horizontally disposed permanent bar magnets having their ends mounted in vertically disposed soft iron pads which are rounded and provided with ridges to register the leaves to be retained. The distance between the ridges is the same as that between those in the notebook to allow leaves to be interchanged. In the card folio shown in Fig. 6, two permanent bar magnets 1 of rectangular cross section are connected together at their ends by two soft iron pads 2, also of rectangular cross section, and the pads are provided with semicircular or V-shaped grooves 14 in their upper surfaces. The cords 7 each have attached to one edge a soft iron wire 8, or a piece of conductive material, by means of a folded strip 8<a> of soft iron. The ends of the wire fit into the grooves 14 of the pads 2. If desired, the wire 8 may be enclosed in the fold of a strip of tape which is secured to the edge of the card. In the case of a notebook, each leaf may be provided with a deposit of metal by electrodeposition, or by the Schoop method. The bar magnet is flat, and has at each end a curved pad of soft iron secured thereto.
