Abstract

436,676. Heating fluids by electricity; electric resistances. ROUX, G. H. C., 103, Rue St. Lazare, Paris. June 29, 1934, No. 19294. [Class 39 (iii)] [See also Group XXXVI] A fluid is heated by passing it through a refractory insulated container 1, provided with electrodes 3 and a resistance filling 2 of magnetite alone or mixed with manganese dioxide, wolframite, sulphides of lead, zinc, iron or copper, or nonconducting materials. One wall of the container, or one electrode, is adapted for displacement under expansion of the resistance material. The filling is in crushed or granulated form, or in the form of a porous agglomerate or a cast mass with quartz tube inserts. The gas flow may be controlled by a thermostat and a number of apparatus may be connected electrically in series or parallel. The device may be operated as a heat accumulator and a gas pumped therethrough may be passed through a heat-exchanger or steam generator.
