Abstract
436,191. Machines for working land. ROTARY CULTIVATORS, Ltd., 32, Victoria Street, Westminster, and MUIRSON, K. J., 20, Hertford Street, Park Lane, London. April 13, 1935, No. 11491. [Class 6 (i)] In a rotary cultivator in which a towing tractor supports a casing 9 for a driven countershaft 8 from which the cultivator shaft 23 is driven and about the axis of which the cultivator frame 21 is movable, a gear-box casing 19 is provided for housing the toothed gearing 6, 7 for driving the countershaft 8 from a rotary shaft 3 on the tractor, the casing 19 having a bearing on the countershaft casing 9 about which it is rotatable to facilitate coupling the rotary shaft 3 to the gearing, and also having a bearing 20 co-axial with the countershaft 8 rotatably supporting the cultivator frame 21. The shaft 3 is surrounded by a casing forming an oil bath and has a splined end engaging in a splined socket 5 of the bevel wheel 6 meshing with bevel wheel 7. The countershaft casing 9 is bolted to the tractor draw-bar 12, and connected to the axle casing 14 by a bracket 13 and bolts 15. Another bracket 16 connected to the axle casing 14 has a tubular bearing on an extension 18 of the gear-box casing 19. The shaft 8 drives the cultivator shaft 23 through a chain 25 and an overload clutch 26. The frame 21 carries a depth-regulating wheel 27 adjustable by worm and nut gearing 28 operated by a hand-crank 29.
