[Class 53] An accumulator having an iodide solution as electrolyte has a number of positive electrodes housed within a corresponding number of perforated cylindrical negative electrodes which are connected in parallel by direct contact of their outer surfaces. Fig. 1 shows a single cell comprising a carbon rod 4 surrounded by activated carbon 3 enclosed in a permeable bag. The negative electrode consists of a cylinder 2 of perforated sheet iron or a network of iron which is coated with zinc when iodide of zinc is used as the electrolyte. A number of cells are placed in contact in a vessel 12 containing the electrolyte as shown in Fig. 3.
