Abstract
435,285. Transformers ; couplings. THORNELOE, A. J., St. Beron, Alderbrook Road, Solihull, Warwickshire. June 16, 1934, No. 17859. [Class 38 (ii)] [See also Group XXXVI] In a transformer with a water-cooled secondary supplying a welding machine having watercooled electrodes, the secondary winding comprises U- shaped tubes 4, 5 electrically connected in parallel and connected by coupling elements 12 to pipes 9 extending to the electrodes, the coupling elements forming a water-tight joint between the pipes and the winding and also an electrical connection between the winding and conductors 11 arranged within the pipes and connected to the electrodes. As shown in Fig. 2, the coupling elements comprise a sleeve 12 having right and left hand threads engaging respectively the tube 5 and a plug 8 closing the end of the pipe 9 and having a tapered spigot entering a corresponding recess in the tube 5. The plug 8 may be branched to enable two welding heads to be supplied from the same transformer.
