434,915. Discharge lamps. SOC. ANON. POUR LES APPLICATIONS DE L'ELECTRICITE ET DES GAZ RARES ETABLISSEMENTS CLAUDE-PAZ SILVA, 8, Rue Cognacq-Jay, Paris. Dec. 31, 1934, No. 37389. Convention date, Oct. 17. [Class 39 (i)] The starting of a lamp in which spark spectra are produced by means of an electromagnetic field of very high intensity, is effected by an electrostatic field ionizing the gas filling. For this purpose a potential may be applied to an auxiliary electrode outside the lamp or, as shown, the circuit of the winding 1 and of a 30,000 cycle alternator 5 is tuned to resonance by a series condenser 4 and a condenser 5 in parallel. The alternator may be overexcited momentarily. An arc spectrum is produced initially, and its damping due to the current induced in the gas reduces the current in the winding to a safe value. The constants of the circuit may be varied by hand or by a relay. The condenser 5 may be omitted. Specifications 404,271 and 409,488 are referred to.
