Abstract
515,077. Supply system for electric discharge lamps. SEAMAN, R H., WELLS, W. T., and SPENCER, L. June 7, 1938, No. 16916. [Class 38 (iv)] A system, for producing non-stationary glow discharges through an electrical energized tube by means of a generator of oscillating current and an exciter coil across which the tube is connected, includes means for varying the position of the point at which the exciter coil is directly or inductively connected with the primary of a transformer in the output circuit of the generator of oscillating current. In the circuit 'shown in Fig. 1 the exciter coil 4, across which the tube 1 is connected, is connected at an adjustable tap 5 to an adjustable tap 7 of the oscillator coil 14 of the push-pull electron tube oscillator system shown. A glow discharge will move along the tube if the voltages between tap 5 and the two ends of the tube 1 are unequal and the operation can be made to repeat continuously by the provision of means for varying the adjustments of the tap positions; or an intensity adjuster or interrupter may be employed.
