Abstract
434,651. Watches. MARTI, F., 137, Rue du Parc, La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. March 4, 1935, No. 6788. Convention date, May 30, 1934. [Class 139] The winding and setting crown of a watch is axially and rotatably slidable on the pendant and loosely engages an element fixed to the winding and setting spindle, for example, by a pin-and-slot connection. The crown 4 is rigid with a ring 3 rotatable and axially slidable on the pendant 2 fixed to the case 1. Screwed on the winding and setting stem 6 is a member 5 provided with two projections 7 located in slots 8, Fig. 2, in the ring 3 whereby rotary motion is imparted to the stem. Two balls 9 housed in radial holes in the ring 3 are forced by an annular spring 10 into engagement with a cam groove 12 in the pendant to force the ring 3 against the shouldder 11 on the pendant to exclude dust and water. When the crown is pulled out for hand-setting, the balls 9 ride up the sides of the cam groove against the action of spring 10 and the bottom faces of the slots 8 in ring 3 engage the member 5 to move the stem 6 axially. The pin and slot connection 7, 8 thus permits easy rotation of stem 6 even if it is offset relative to the axis of the pendant.
