Convention date, March 22, [Class 139] Keyless mechanism for watches and other timepieces in which the crown is normally locked to the case 1 or pendant tube 2 and in which a coupling 6, 8 is provided to engage the winding stem 4 and the crown when the latter is released from the case or pendant tube, is characterized in that the half 8 of the coupling which is attached to the crown comprises a socket which is fixed to the crown by two distinct parts 13, 14 to prevent relative axial or rotary movement between socket and crown. The part 6 screwed to the stem 4 has two diametrically opposite shoulders which engage the two grooves 7 in the socket 8 under the action of a spring 10 when the crown is unscrewed from the tube 2. Socket 8 is screwed into the crown and has two diametrically opposite recesses 13 into which the metal of the crown is pressed at 14 to hold the two parts firmly together. In seven modifications the socket 8 and the crown are connected by various arrangements of slots and ribs and in each case the metal of the crown is pressed in to hold the socket against relative movement. To hold the spring 10 to the socket 8, Fig. 14, the upper end of the spring is sprung over the lower end of the socket which has a thread 30 to accommodate the spring. Seven modified constructions are illustrated for attaching the spring to the lower end of the socket.
