Abstract

434,357. Rearing-appliances. POUND, W. A., Poultry Appliance Works, Bewdley, Worcestershire. Dec. 30, 1933, No. 36678. [Class 5 (ii)] The floor of a brooder is formed by wire mesh 13 and carries two metal cones, the outer one resting on the floor and being separated by a short distance from the other cone 6 which extends downwardly through the floor. The hot gases from a lamp 1 pass upwards through an aperture 3 in a metal droppings tray 2 into the cone 6 which is closed at the top but is provided with a flue pipe 7 extending from its side to the outside of the brooder. The fresh air for the chickens enters the brooder through openings 9 and is drawn between the two cones escaping into the brooding chamber through openings 11 at the top of the outer cone. The brooder may have a sleeping portion divided off by a removable curtain and may be provided with a feeding trough 16 fitted with a glass top 19.
