Abstract

434,495. Rearing - appliances for poultry &c. OSMASTON, D. F., Lowfold, Wisborough Green, Sussex. Feb. 28, 1934, No. 6446. [Class 5 (ii)] A brooder or fostermother of the type employing a radiator or other heating device not involving combustion of the surrounding air is provided with a duct or enclosure in which the incoming cold air is brought into contact with the heating unit while being isolated from the chickens. In the form shown, four rearing compartments 2 separated by partitions 3 are arranged in a brooder house provided with a passage 1 and fitted with a boiler 8 and circulating pipes 9, 10. In each compartment is a raised floor 5 on which rests a hover 6 and beneath which is a hot water radiator 7 situated in a radiator enclosure 13. Cold fresh air is admitted under the floor 5 through apertures covered by wire netting 22 and flows past the radiator through an opening 15 in the floor up a low chimney capped by a wire guard 17 through which it passes into the hover chamber 6 escaping through the usual curtains 18. The hover may be provided with an inspection window 24. The heating may be by hot water or hot air radiators or by electric means. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 332,710, [Class 5 (ii)].
