[Class 100 (i)] In a rotary engraved-plate printing-machine for printing postage-stamps, punches are mounted on the plate cylinder 10, Fig. 3, adjacent to the ends of the plate 13 so as to discharge into a plate-clamp slot 12, and co-operate with punch plates mounted on the impression cylinder, the holes punched in the sheets of stamps being for the purpose of aligning the sheets on pegs upon the bed of a perforating-machine. Two holes 20 are drilled in the centres of the sides of the plate 13 outside the printing area and are threaded and formed with flared edges near the openings 20<a>. A tubular punch 22 is screwed into each hole with the cutting edge projecting slightly. On the impression cylinder 11, the make-ready board 27 is formed with projecting tabs 30, Fig. 5, to coact with the punches, the tabs being reinforced by thin metal strips 31 passed through slots 29 in the board, bent over the tabs, and secured by rivets 32. The punchings fall into the clamping slot 12 which is covered by a strip of heavy gummed paper to prevent their escape while the machine is running. Holes 26 in the punch 22 facilitate the escape of the punchings.
