467,907. Printing-machines. DOTESIO, E. B. Dec. 24, 1935, No. 35673. [Class 100 (i)] A scoring or cutting unit for assembly with a forme of type in a printing-machine comprises a scoring or cutting blade A, a resiliently mounted protector plate or plates B alongside the blade A, and members F, the adjacent type being maintained in spaced relationship to provide room for the parts A, B by the members F the effective spacing distance of which is greater than the combined thickness of the parts A, B. The members F may be formed integrally with the blade A or with one of a pair of side-plates C, D enclosing the unit. In the latter case, the members F pass through holes in the ports A, B and are always of slightly greater width than the parts A, B. Helical springs E are mounted in recesses in the parts A, B and normally hold the plates B with their upper edges just above the edge of the blade A, but are pressed downwardly by the impression member N to allow the blade A to act on the sheet M. The number of springs E and members F employed may depend on the length of the blade A and plates B. The upper edges of the plates B may be formed for printing a border or letterpress on the sheet.
