Abstract

433,688. Metal - heating furnaces. DODERER, W., 12, Stammgasse, Vienna. Nov. 13, 1933, No. 31573. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, May 15, 1934]. [Class 51 (ii)] In a continuous apparatus for annealing metal plates comprising a furnace 1 and a cooling chamber K, the latter comprises a first section, through which the plates are moved in succession by a rocking table 3 and high speed rollers 4, and a final section fitted with an endless conveyer 5 on which the plates are stacked in piles 6 and which is driven at a relatively low speed to carry the piles slowly to the discharge end 7. The cooling chamber is supplied with protective gas at 9, escape of this gas being prevented by spring pressed baffles 8 and a self-closing discharge flap 7. The complete cooling chamber is divided into zones I .. IV of which I is not protected against loss of heat, II and III are surrounded by lagging 11, and IV is provided with a water-cooling jacket 12. Electric heating elements may be fitted in the zones II and III. Modifications are described in which the cooling chamber K, instead of being constituted by a straight-through chamber as shown, has, when viewed in plan, one or more right-angle bends in its length.
