[Class 99 (i)] A pipe or rod joint comprises a longitudinally slotted, non- tapered, screwthreaded sleeve c surrounding the abutting pipe ends, and having an angle of thread of at least 90‹. A nut d which fits the uncompressed sleeve is screwed on to each end of the sleeve and against the end of an outer sleeve e when inter-action of the threads causes the split sleeve to be compressed on to the pipes. In securing a tube to a plate the slotted sleeve h is screwed into the opening and a nut is screwed on to the sleeve until it abuts against the base of a recess around the opening. The screw-thread of the opening in the plate may be lined with a wire g. Specifications 24804/93, [Class 99], and 2930/03, [Class 36], are referred to.
