Abstract
432,962. Wick burners. HAIL WOOD, E. A., Beacon House, Texas Street, Morley, near Leeds. Jan. 31, 1934, No. 3232. [Class 75 (i)] The wick tube T of a miner's safety lamp is surrounded by an outer tube A, Figs. 2 and 3, which is formed at its upper end with lips A<1> directing air entering the space between the tubes on to the flame. The tube A may be formed with air admission apertures A<2> and with a slot allowing the passage of the wick operating pin L. The edges of the apertures A<2> may be formed with air-directing lips or skirts A<3>, A<6>. The tube A may rest on a ledge on the wick tube T or be mounted on an adjusting screw S. The burner dome D may be permanently attached to the tube A which may be made in two parts, one sliding on the other. Figs. 5 and 6 show a modification in which a collar A on the wick tube carries a fitting Ax having inwardly turned upper edges and surrounding three sides of the wick tube. Air enters the fitting through a slot A<9> and past wings A<10> at the sides. The upper edge of the fitting and the wick tube may be inclined.
