Abstract

387,689. Wick burners. HAILWOOD, E. A., Beacon House, Texas Street, Morley, near Leeds. July 8, 1931, No. 19614. [Classes 75 (i) and 75 (iii).] A member is movable in relation to the wick to vary the air supply to remove any unevenness in the flame. In Fig. 1 the movable member consists of an inclined or horizontal disc A mounted eccentrically on a vertical pin P which can be rotated through pinion gearing G, G<1> by a shaft G<2> extending to the outside of the lamp. In modifications the disc is replaced by a cupped out dome and is mounted on an inclined or horizontal pin operated from the outside of the lamp through bevel gearing. In Figs. 4 and 4a a bent wire P<x>, such as the insulated ignition wire used in miners' safety lamps, is provided with a head A<1> which can be moved towards the flame. The wire P<x> may be mounted so as to be adjustable vertically. In another form a bush or sleeve having a projecting lip is adjustable laterally in relation to the flame by a screw.
