Abstract
447,406. Miners' safety lamps. HAILWOOD, E. A., Beacon House, Texas Street, Morley, Leeds. Nov. 13, 1934, No. 32616. [Classes 75 (i) and 75 (iv)] In a miners' or like safety lamp the movement of a sleeve surrounding the wick tube for producing a gas cap on the flame moves a portion of the burner dome so as to allow the gas cap to be observed against a dull or matt surface on the stationary portion of the dome. Figs. 1 and 2 show a burner in which a dome portion D<1> may be lowered by a pin P and a wick sleeve S simultaneously raised to render the gas cap visible against a fixed dome portion D, a lever L pivoted at L<1> to the wick tube having one end L<2> engaging in a slot in the dome portion D<1> and the other end L<3> being connected by a link L<4> to the sleeve S. The pin P may be merely slidable in a tube V<1> passing through the lamp reservoir or may have a short securing thread P<x> at its lower end. A spring A<x> may be provided to resist the downward movement of the pin P. The sleeve S may have an opening down one side and be provided with nicks constituting air gaps in its upper edges. In another construction the lever L is pivoted at opposite ends to the dome portion D<1> and sleeve S.
