Abstract
The Specification relates to the manufacture of diarylamines by heating primary aromatic amines with a suitable catalyst in a closed apparatus at substantially constant super-atmospheric pressure, while the charge is kept boiling. The process is described with reference to aniline, using hydrochloric acid or ammonium chloride as catalyst, but is stated to be applicable also to the production of phenyl-a -naphthylamine and p-ethoxyphenyl-a -naphthylamine from a -naphthylamine with aniline or p-phenetidine respectively, and to the production of toluidines, xylidines, naphthylamines and phenetidine.
