Abstract

432,302. Pencils ; pencil holders and sharpeners. PIKE, R. S., Dunts Hill Mills, Garratt Lane, Earlsfield, London. April 18, 1934, No. 11691. [Class 146 (iii)] A pencil is non-rotatably carried in an outer tubular casing provided at its forward end with a rotatable cutter for sharpening the pencil, the pencil being provided with a projection engaging a spiral &c. like channel in a tubular manner rotatable in the outer casing. The wood or like sheathed lead 1 is formed at its rear end with one or more lateral protuberances or is provided with a nut 6 having projections or a screwthread adapted to engage in a corresponding groove in the inner of two concentric tubes 2, 3 rotatable relatively to one another. The pencil is of polygonal or D-shape in crosssection, and is held against rotation relatively to the outer tube 3 by means of a washer 7 secured in the tube and formed with a correspondingly-shaped aperture. The tube 2 projects from the casing at the rear end and is provided with an operating head 8. The sharpener 4 is formed with a conical end 11 provided with one or more inturned cutting-edges, and a rear cylindrical section rotatably secured in the end of the casing by means of a co-oporating groove and projection.
