Abstract

432,280. Artificial silk yarns. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd., 22, Hanover Square, London, MONCRIEFF, R. W., and HILL, F. B., c/o British Celanese, Ltd., Spondon, near Derby. Jan. 24, 1934, No. 2524. [Class 120 (iii)] Artificial spun yarns consisting of staple lengths of artificial filaments are stretched beyond the elastic limit so that the staple lengths of which the yarns consist are permanently elongated. The yarns may be made from cellulose acetate or other organic derivative of cellulose and may be stretched in the presence of an agent adapted to exert a softening action on the substance of the yarn; the yarns may be assembled in warp form and stretched as described in Specification 371,461 and, after stretching, the yarns may be slightly shrunk as described in Specification 380,504, [Group IV]. The yarns may be treated with the softening or swelling agent as described in Specifications 277,089, 323,790, [both in Class 120 (iii)], 370,430, and 371,461, and are stretched from 50 per cent to 100 per cent of their original length. The continuous filaments may be converted directly into spun yarns in the manners described in Specifications 410,805 and 417,325, and may be cut or severed as described in Specification 424,683.
