Abstract

432,003. Duplicating phonograph - record matrices by electrodeposition. ELECTRICAL RESEARCH PRODUCTS, Inc., 195, Broadway, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Pollard, C. E. ; 413, Warren Avenue, Hohokus, and Russell, A. G. ; 47, Rector Place, Red Bank, both in New Jersey, U.S.A.) Jan. 1, 1935, No. 33. Convention date, Aug. 16, 1934. [Class 41] A metal matrix 10 is coated by electrodeposition with a thin chromium layer 11. After the usual surface film has formed on the chromium, a thin layei of metal 12 is applied tc it by sputtering. A steel ring 13 covered with rubber 14 is then clamped round the matrix and copper is deposited by electrodeposition to about the thickness of the matrix 10. The ring 13 is then removed, enabling the copper deposit to be easily separated to form a negative of the matrix 10. Before chromiumplating, the matrix 10 may be cleaned electrolytically in hot caustic solution, rinsed and brushed, returned to the electrolytic cleaner, rinsed and dipped in dilute hydrochloric acid, rinsed and then treated in sodium cyanide solution.
