Abstract

431,874. Mounting motors &c. STANDARD MOTOR CO., Ltd., and GRINHAM, E. G., Canley, Coventry. Jan. 24, 1934, Nos. 2468 and 24157. [Class 79 (iii)] Resilient mounting or positioning means for an engine and gearbox unit on a motor vehicle, allowing rocking about a longitudinal downwardly inclined axis 20 passing through or near the centre of mass of the unit, comprises a single rear cushioning pad 13 and, at the front end, spaced cushioning pads 18 tangential or shaped to conform to the circumference of a transverse circle centred on the axis of oscillation. Flat rubber pads are shown in Fig. 2, bonded on opposite surfaces to plates 21, 22 adapted to be bolted respectively to the unit and the chassis frame or to chassis frame brackets 23 ; in the latter case the pads may be bonded to the brackets 23, the plates 22 being omitted. The spaced pads at the front end preferably lie lower than the axis of oscillation, but in the main higher than the crankshaft axis. The plane of the circle 19 to which the front pads are tangential may be vertical or at right angles to the axis of oscillation 20. A modification is described in which the pads and bonding plates &c. are of arcuate form centred on the axis 20, Fig. 4, showing the rear mounting in which the pad 13 is bonded to plates 15, 16.
