[Classes 4 and 114] A method of producing thrust forces within a fluid medium for the purpose of propulsion or transmission of power consists in projecting a fluid layer at high velocty over the leading face of an inclined aerofoil to produce a depression against this face while maintaining the surrounding pressure on the reverse face of the aerofoil by replacement fluid streams. Jets or burner nozzles c project a stream of gas at high pressure into a chamber d, entraining the surrounding fluid through apertures e. The expanded gases sweep over the leading faces h of aerofoils g arranged symmetrically around an axis 0-0, producing on the leading face thereof a reduction in pressure. The pressure on the reverse face i of the aerofoil is maintained by induced streams of surrounding fluid passing through passages s.
