Abstract

6090. Forman, W. J. G. March 12. Direct explosive-gas pressure apparatus.-Water is projected onto a Pelton wheel on a turbine by the explosion of gas or petroleum vapour in one or more apparatus such as shown. Gas or vapour and air are introduced through a valve B into the chamber, and the charge is compressed by the admission of water under a considerable head through a valve C. The charge is then exploded by a plug E, or a tube and the water is expelled through the nozzle d onto the wheel F. The nozzle is provided with a plug d<1> which is drawn from its seat by the water acting on the piston G. The exhaust valve H may be operated in the manner shown, by a float in the water, or by the piston G.
