Abstract

1386014 Deflecting propulsion jets ROLLSROYCE (1971) Ltd 5 May 1972 20932/72 Heading B7G Jet deflecting apparatus mounting in a jet pipe 18 comprises a hollow partially conical member or cowl 26 mounted within the jet pipe above an opening therein leading to a secondary gas deflecting nozzle 24, both the jet pipe and the cowl being double-walled so as to provide passages 42, 43 for cooling air flow. The base of the cowl 26 is formed as an annulus 28 the cowl being mounted for rotation by a gear drive 32, 44 in bearings 34, 38 with its axis 36 intersecting the axis and wall of the jet pipe so that pipe 18 or nozzle 24 are selectively obturated.
