Abstract

431,394. Bats ; rackets. DONISTHORPE, F. W., 16, Ashworth Road, Maida Hill, London. Jan. 4, 1934, Nos. 314 and 33172. [Class 132 (ii)] A racket for tennis and like games comprises a grip member 1 of only sufficient length to be comfortably gripped and two handle members 2 diverging from the grip member and joining the head 3 towards its extreme sides. The handle members as shown in Figs. 1 and 3 comprise a continuous bend forming the top of the head which is completed by an insert 4 and overlay 5. As shown in Fig. 7, the head is permanently or detachably connected to the handle by pivots 15 and resilient members 16 such as helical springs or gut. The pivots may be replaced by clips, in which case the resilient members are dispensed with. To facilitate stringing, holes 10, Fig. 4, or slots may be provided in the handle members to permit the passage of an awl into the holes in the insert 4.
