Abstract

224,964. Forbes, O. V., and Back, M. Aug. 23, 1923. Rackets.-A tennis or like racket is provided with diagonal strings arranged at an angle of 45‹ to two or more longitudinal centre mains, which are highly tensioned to prevent distortion of the frame. As shown, the centre mains b are formed of compound strings. The frame is reinforced by strips a, a' of vulcanized fibre, celluloid, horn or wood, to allow of wire stringing at highest tension, the holes for the stringing passing centrally through the frame. The shoulders and neck of the racket are strengthened by strips a<2> of wood, cane, celluloid, metal, &c., glued or cemented to the frame and further secured by gut bindings a<3> and wrappings a<4>.
