14,397. Brown, S. June 19. Rackets.-The frame of a tennis racket, bat, or the like of rectangular, circular, oval, or other cross-section, constructed of wood, metal, celluloid, fibre, or the like is wound round with wire 3 to prevent the frame from warping. A piece of stout gut 4 is passed under and over each spiral of the wire 3, and the ends are made fast by means of knots 5, 6. A length of suspending-gut 7 is passed round the inside of the racket between the wire 3 and the frame, and the ends are made fast to a tapered peg 9. Transverse and longitudinal stringing is then passed round the suspending-gut 7, and the ends are secured. By tightening-up the suspending- gut 7, the stringing is correspondingly tensioned. In a modification, the gut 4 is dispensed with, and the stringing is attached directly to the suspending-gut 7; and in further modifications, the peg 9 and gut 7 are also dispensed with, and the stringing is passed round the wire 3.
