Bats, cricket and like; rackets; golf; hockey.-A number of longitudinal saw-cuts 2 are made in the handle of a cricket bat, and strips 1<a> or rings of india-rubber or like material are wound in the sections formed by the sawcuts. The saw-cuts may extend the full length of the handle and may be filled in for part of their length with rubber rings, the remainder of their length being filled with wood, leather, or sheet rubber. The handle is finally bound with twine 3 which may be covered with a rubber sheath 4. Handles for tennis racquets, hockey sticks, golf clubs, &c. may be made in the same manner.
