[A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Aug. 17, 1934.] [Class 79 (iii)] Coupling and steering mechanisms for trailer vehicles comprise a universal coupling 7, the centre of oscillation of which lies midway between and on the coincident apices of angular frames 3, 6 connected to the towing and trailer vehicles, and means secured to one of the frames for steering the wheels of the trailer simultaneously with the steering displacements of the towing vehicle. In one form, the frame 6 is connected to the trailing vehicle by hinges or ball and socket joints. The frame 3 carries two arms 35, 35<1> pivotally connected to links 17, 18 which are pivoted to levers 12, 14 of the steering mechanism 12, 13, 14 of the front wheels of the trailer. In a modification, the arms 35, 35<1> are linked to the ends of a lever 22, secured to a shaft 34 journalled in the trailer front-axle and carrying a lever 22<1>, 23<1> connected by crossed links 31, 32 to a lever 26, 26<1> journalled in the trailer rear-axle. The levers 22<1>, 23<1> and 26, 26<1> are provided, respectively, with arms 25, 28 which operate, respectively, the drag-links 13, 13<1> of the front and rear wheel steering mechanism. A gangway may be provided between the vehicles. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also included a rhomboidal frame secured to the towing vehicle, the front wheels of the trailer being steered by two links pivoted to the frame and to the front wheel axle or by a single link pivoted to the frame and to the steering mechanism for the front wheels. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
