Abstract
430,694. Driving mechanism for the needle bars of gilling machines. ATELIERS ST. - ELOI, 18, Rue du Chateau, Tourcoing, Nord, France. June 29, 1934, No. 19309. Convention date, June 30, 1933. [Class 120 (i)] In a mechanism for driving the revolving needle bars 7 of a gilling machine for fibrous materials, a differential gear is employed which in addition to imparting an orbital movement to the needle bars about a common central axis effects a rotary movement of the said needle bars about their own axes in a direction opposite to that of their orbital movement, the relative speed ratios of the two movements being such that the nedles are always maintained parallel with themselves throughout their orbital movement. The material M to be gilled is fed by a band 1 moved by rollers 2, 3, to oppositely rotating feed rollers 4, 5 and is carried thence to the field of operation of needles 6 set in bars 7. The bars move orbitally about the axis O of the system in such manner that the needles 6 remain constantly parallel. After gilling the material is removed by a discharge roller 8 and belt 9 moved by rollers 10. The bars 7 turn in bearings in the sun-wheels 11 which rotate about the axis 0. Each bar 7 carries at each end a pinion 12 meshing with a common pinion 13 rigid with a pinion 14 and loosely mounted on an axial shaft 19 fixed in side plates 15 of the machine. A driving shaft 16 journalled in the end plates 15 carries pinions 17, 18 which mesh with pinions 11, 14. The gear ratios are : between 17 and 11, 1 : 2 ; between 18 and 14, 1 : 1 ; and between 13 and 12, 1 : 1. The pinions 13 could be replaced by hollow internally toothed pinions meshing with pinions 12 located within said hollow pinions.
