[Class 135] A pressure regulator of the kind having a piston actuated main valve opening in the direction of flow controlled by an auxiliary valve has the auxiliary valve formed as a double beat valve housed in the same casing as the main valve. The main valve 1 has a guide spindle 41 co-operating with a socket in a detachable cap 28, and a spindle 4 connecting it to a leaky piston 2 of larger diameter than the valve. The leakage past the piston may be supplemented by a passage 19 controlled by a throttle 18 or by a supplemental spring loaded valve. The piston has an adjustable stop 20 to prevent the valve hammering on its seat. The auxiliary valve 3 is coupled to its actuating diaphragm 12, which is loaded by a spring 16, through a resilient member 22 such as a corrugated disc. In a modification a metallic diaphragm working between a pair of perforated cupped discs is used to operate the auxiliary valve. In this form the thrust of the loading spring is transmitted to the diaphragm through a bellows and a volume of liquid. The bellows may be used to actuate the auxiliary valve. A damping device may be associated with the main valve to prevent chatter.
