Abstract

429,552. Safety supports for workmen. CAHILL, H., and ADAMS, J., 26, Westmoreland Street, Dublin. June 28, 1934, No. 19152. [Class 141] [See also Group X] A safety device foi supporting workmen working at heights comprises two symmetrical telescopic parts and a right and left hand screw adjuster between the parts. Each part is formed of telescoping tubes 1, 2, which are adjusted for length by cross-pins entering registering holes in the tubes, or by means of spring pins 11 on the inner tube entering opposed holes in the outer tube. The central screwadjuster 5 works in nut portions 4 secured to the inner ends of the inner tubular members, while the outer ends of the outer tubular members are provided with padded flanged portions 3 which are pressed against the sides of window recesses or any two opposed surfaces. The body-harness of the workman is hooked over the support, or, alternatively, a rope may be suspended from the bar to aid escape from a burning building.
