Abstract

429,355. Radiators for motor vehicles. LUCAS, Ltd., J., and PURDEN, R. H., Great King Street, Birmingham. Nov. 30, 1933, No. 34903/32. [Class 29] Relatively movable rods or the like interposed between a thermostatic device c and the actuating bar b of radiator shutters f normally controlled by the thermostat are moved into the operative position by fluid operated means dependent on the motion of the engine, for example a plunger l in a cylinder o connected by a pipe r to the engine induction pipe, and held in the operative position by an electromagnet p, q controlled by a manual switch m. When the engine stops the bars are held in the operative position so long as the switch is closed, and are moved by a spring n to the inoperative position when the switch is opened, the shutters being then closed by their spring i. In another arrangement the cylinder is carried by a slidable bar and moves over a plunger on the actuating bar of the shutters. The oil pressure of the engine may be utilized in place of the engine suction.
