Abstract
459,601. Radiators. CROSS, R. C., 33, Midford Road, Odd Down, Bath. May 9, 1935, No. 13675. [Class 29] [See also Groups XXVII and XXXI] An internal-combustion engine is entirely surrounded by a heat-insulated casing 5 having inlets and outlets controlled by heatinsulated shutters, power-operated by fluid pressure under the control of a thermal device. On a motor vehicle the casing comprises the bonnet which has insulating material, e.g. silica wool, fastened to the interior thereof, further material being arranged under the sump and vertically at the rear of the engine. Radiator shutters 8, also covered with heatinsulated material, open simultaneously with air exit shutters 9 under the control of a thermal device 16. The device 16 acts through a relay device comprising a valve admitting lubricating oil under pressure from the engine to act on two pistons in a cylinder 10, the pistons being coupled to the shutters by linkage 11 ... 14. When the engine stops the shutters immediately close under the action of springs 17. The Provisional Specification describes the combination of ordinary radiator shutters, controlled by a thermal device, with heatinsulated shutters controlled by the oil pressure of the engine.
