Abstract

429,304. Forging valve bodies. MANSILL, BOOTH, & CO., Ltd., and MANSILL, G. A., Cape Stamping Works, Smethwick, Staffordshire. March 2, 1934, No. 6667. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] The " globe " type of tap or cock body shown in Fig. 4 is made by hot pressing from a billet within dies using displacement punches. The middle part o, the outlet part k and the inlet part m are externally shaped by the dies so that the outlet and preferably also the other two parts mentioned are substantially of finished size. The interior is formed by punches i, h, j which consolidate the central part, the punch i being of the form shown in Fig. 3, being hollowed and arched at i<2> and provided with a small cut away part i<4> which leaves a short web u joining the base of the central part to the wall of the tap body. Subsequently the part s is enlarged to break through to the channel q, but leaving the web u intact. The bead v is formed by the external dies so that there is no subsequent contraction of this portion.
