Abstract
516,895. Making bombs, projectiles &c. BROWN, D. July 12, 1938, Nos. 20679 and 32021. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Pipe end closing; forging-dies.-Bombs, projectiles and the like are formed from tubular blanks by reducing the ends in dies under axial pressure whilst heated. The blanks may be made by bending up and welding a strip. The first die b is of hemispherical form and has a pin c to determine the size of opening required. After the end has been reheated. it is finished in a die d, Fig. 4. Irregularities may be removed by pressing between coacting dies f, g, Fig. 6. The other end is finished in similar but rather deeper dies.
