429,213. Controlling reversing-gearing. HARRISON, H. G., Onwards, Sycamore Road, Farnborough, Hampshire. March 2, 1934, No. 6679. [Class 80 (ii)] [See also Group XXXIII] A single-lever remote control apparatus for the reversing gear of a marine craft has included therein an interlocking mechanism coupled to the servomotor piston and positive stops on the engine control which prevent the engine from being speeded up until forward or reverse gear engagement is effected. Mounted on the servomotor 2 is a trunnion member 1 carrying a rod 4 upon which are adjustably disposed sleeves 8, the rod 4 is coupled by a link 7 to the servomotor links, and the sleeves 8 have chamfered inner edges. In a casing above the rod are disposed two plungers 10 also with bevelled edges under spring restraint 11 and having rods 14 coupled to a shaft 15. Upon the shaft are fingers 13 which project into the control drum 17 adjacent to a pin 20 on the cover 18. In the control casing 17 is a drum around which passes the chain 19 to the control station, and on the cover is the rod 21 which passes to the engine throttle. When a change of drive is to be effected, the rod 4 is moved by the servomotor, one or other of the plungers 10 is raised, and one or other of the fingers 13 is moved so as to obstruct movement of the pin 20 more than a distance necessary for idle running of the engine. As soon as the change has been effected, the rod 4 returns to neutral and the projections 13 are removed from the pin 20 so that further movement of the control chain 19 is possible for speeding up the engine.
