Abstract
429,140. Converting. SIEMENS-SCHUCKERTWERKE AKT. - GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. Aug. 16, 1934, No. 23691. Convention date, Nov. 9, 1933. [Class 38 (ii)] In arrangements comprising a number of grid-controlled discharge devices such as mercury arc rectifiers 5 connected to a common supply network 4 and feeding either a common load circuit or a number of independent load circuits 1, provision is made for simultaneous regulation by a common control element and also for independent regulation of the individual rectifiers. In the arrangement shown, ignition impulses are distributed to the grids of the several rectifiers through rotary distributers 6, the rotary elements of which are mounted on a common shaft driven by a synchronous motor 8. Simultaneous regulation of the several rectifiers may be effected by angular displacement of the field of the synchronous motor by adjustment of the relative magnitudes of two field components provided by the windings 9, 10. Alternatively, this regulation may be effected by phase shifting devices (transformers or variably saturated chokes) provided in the A.C. supply to the motor. Independent regulation of the several rectifiers is effected by angular displacement of the non-rotary elements of the distributers 6 by separately controlled motors 7. Synchronous generators may, however, be substituted for the rotary distributers 6, in which case independent regulation of the several rectifiers may be effected by angular displacement of the generator fields by relative adjustment of two components as in case of the motor field for effecting simultaneous regulation. In alternative arrangements, (not illustrated), non- rotating grid control apparatus is employed. For example a group of phase-shifting transformers having their rotors mechanically coupled may be employed for simultaneous regulation, a further group of phase-shifting transformers with independently adjustable rotors being employed for independent regulation. Specifications 406,913, 413,797, and 416,021 are referred to.
