Systems depending on the use of stati'c transformers.-Relates to arrangements of transformers for feeding motors for traction and other purposes. Two of the arrangements are selected for illustration. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, a static transformer Q is employed for supplying squirrel cage motors M, M with constant current from a direct current source at T of constant voltage. The distributor A for the transformer is rotated by a small constant speed motor C which by means of a secondary winding of the stator furnishes the low tension auxiliary current for the inside service. The distributor B of the main motors is rotated by a small motor E, the speed of which is regulated either automatically or by hand. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, squirrel cage motors are fed from a polyphase source through an auto-transformer. The distributor 7 for the squirrel cage motor or motors is driven by a small variable-speed motor 8, the speed of which is regulated by the operator. A nearly constant flux is maintained by adjusting the contacts 3, 4, 5 of the transformer. As these contacts should occupy definite positions corresponding to each speed of the motor 8, the adjustment of the controller of this latter motor is caused at the same time to adjust the contacts. The various other arrangements comprise systems of similar character taking power from either direct current or monophase and polyphase sources.
